Mike Teevee
Iris and I enjoyed the much-anticipated season 3 premiere of Game of Thrones tonight. Alaric joined us for some King of the Hill to wind down, and then Jaimie arrived as we watched To Catch a Predator. I stayed awake long enough to finish an episode of Lockup, a mildly sensationalized look at prison life. Aside: It's amusing that the new BP commercial talks about "our commitment to America." Thanks, British Petroleum. I'm happy you're looking out for us.

Easter Hooligans
Iris cooked eggplant parm and fettucini to share, and Shandana joined us for dinner. We watched The Matrix with Alaric, Sean and Katie, poking at plot holes but enjoying the film. At midnight we received an email from the RAs about an egg hunt in West F; questions about Northeastern programs were hidden inside plastic eggs around the building, which we could send in the answers to for Dunkin Donuts gift cards. Quickly, we fanned out and found most or all of the eggs and replaced the questions with some notes of our own. ("WHERE'S BANE?" "What color is Bob Jose's hair?" "cum on step it up faster faster gotta go faster go g-go go go, sonic fast!")

Bag It Up
I had my CEP one on one meeting today, which was uneventful. I pressed for more civics-oriented volunteering options and learned that the co-op projects will be changing, which is not great news. In the evening, Iris and I shared sushi at a Cambridge establishment called Fuji. The food was good, but their choice of music was kind of iffy. ("Wake Me Up When September Ends"?) Afterward, we walked to Toscanini's, where they serve what the New York Times called "the best ice cream in the world." Their radio station was fantastic, and I sang along with a funny server to "You Sexy Thing" by Hot Chocolate. I enjoyed a scoop each of salted caramel and strawberry ice cream. These were scrumptious, though the price was astronomical enough to deter from returning for at least some time. Alanna and Amy came over, hung out and watched the Michigan State vs. Duke basketball game. I feel poorly for being a bad host, since I passed out on the couch before long.

Super-Id
Alaric's brother Eli came to visit today. He's pretty low-key and has generally chilled out since he got here. I unexpectedly got wrapped up in a thirsty Thursday with Iris and the girls of 616. We played some Kings and Drug Dealer, sat around and talked over each other for a while. I had a nice conversation with Meredith and the Laurens for a time, ultimately retiring before the evening reached its nadir.

Kinetic Awkwardness
Alaric received an unwanted text at 8:30 this morning, to which he, Sean and I drafted a response after a bit of collaborative editing. I visited Iris before her class, had breakfast at IV, and prepared for my next interview. I kept my composure during this one, a meeting with the head of NU's undergrad admissions team, and it seems like a job that would suit me (if not really advancing my political science focus.) In Research Methods, we watched the Freakonomics film and established some camaraderie on the basis of everyone despising the class. (Though the movie was great.) Finally, Iris and I had an incident in which a pair of her underwear went permanently missing in my room. We turned the place upside down, flipped the mattress, searched with my flashlight, put away loose clutter, everything. They're still lost - shoot me a message if you find them.

Red Dawn II
At 8 am, I cut the bottom of my nose while shaving for my interview. It bled while I ironed my clothes, it bled while I rode the Green Line with crossed fingers, it bled when I reached Government Center, and it bled all the way through my interview with the firm's hiring manager. After all that stress, we were done in 17 minutes. I'm not sure how I did, I was so preoccupied with not spilling blood all over the glass table. It can't be helped now, at any rate.
I headed to Holmes Hall for a meeting with my co-op advisor, running into Professor Urman and discussing law school in the elevator. The meeting was somewhat reassuring, as I learned that some of the places I applied to haven't started interviewing applicants yet. After a long slumber, I got up in the evening and went on a Fens run. The skies were clear and a full moon lit up the park. It was very peaceful. On my return, I found that Sean had reclaimed his charger (not having a functional laptop charger is the pits.) Eventually I convinced myself to hang out in Snell and finish some Research Methods crap. Lesson learned: watching the sunrise from the library is a dreadful experience.

Stairs: My Only Weakness
I fell down some of the stairs to the laundry room, but Laura was the only witness. Most of my evening was spent being stressed about my law firm interview in the morning and researching what not to do in front of the hiring manager. I've never had a proper interview before, and tomorrow will be my trial by fire.

Phil & the Payphones
After what feels like the longest time, Iris and I finished The Sopranos. As expected, she was intrigued by the ending; on the other hand, some completely insane scenes in the final four episodes which dropped my jaw the first time around elicited a mild "Interesting." from her. I look forward to starting another series over the summer - Brian and I plan on watching Deadwood, though I'm also very interested in The Wire. Not to mention, Iris and I still need to follow Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones. I can safely say that my appreciation for television shows has shot up about 200% since last year.

Wrath of the Queen Regent
The previous post was my 500th, an exciting milestone. Alanna and I discussed the possibility of a jazz/soul radio program with WRBB next year, and the more I think about it, the more excited I become. Iris cooked a magnificent lasagna, which we enjoyed with bread and olive oil with a dash of The Sopranos. Alanna came over afterward and was sorely beaten in a chess match by yours truly, though she was admittedly much drunker than me. Never underestimate the annoying defensive value of thoughtfully placed pawns. Iris expressed dissatisfaction with the way that Alanna and I bicker, which makes me feel bad because I've been used to friends with whom bickering was the de facto method of conversation.

American Misdirection Society
Laying on the couch this morning, I complained about not receiving any interview offers. Five minutes later, I received a call from a law firm for an interview next Tuesday! This is a small but notable personal injury firm which negotiated the Big Dig ceiling collapse settlement, among other high-profile cases. I also got the chance to sing Frank Zappa's "Bobby Brown" with Eliot, which was an experience.
Relay For Life was nightmarish, as expected. I chose not to walk at all, considering that the entire event is a fundraiser with an event thrown in to get people to attend. I was looking forward to the Luminaria ceremony, but Nathan sat next to me and coughed loudly the entire time. By the end of the ceremony, I was enveloped in a white-hot rage and wanted to punch him in the head. My mood only deteriorated when 1) the booming dance music never turned off, especially annoying considering the acoustic quality of Matthews; 2) I got upset during an argument with Iris over what I see as the misguided mission toward the "cure"; and 3) the goddamn music never turned off. Mercifully, I managed to nap for a little while near the end of the night.
Quotes of the day:
"Aiding and abetting ass." - Alaric
...
Sean:"We beat cancer."
Me: "More importantly, we beat BC in their fight against cancer."
...
Lauren: "Wait, who was that?"
Sean: "Awkward kid number one."

Captain Hammer
Harrison, Eliot and I speculated on who the Springfest special guest might be, considering Colin Powell, Bob Dylan, Jay-Z, and Rick Perry. I plan on going this year, Kid Cudi will probably be pretty cool. I went to Alanna's to play ping-pong in the basement, talk and get drunk. We redecorated her room, including banging on the walls with a hammer and pissing off her neighbors. The game is up between her roommate and me; he appeared while we were sitting in the apartment, prompting a brief and mildly awkward exchange. Back at home, I blew the fuse in the living room thanks to the frayed wire on my laptop charger.

Rocket Pubes
I rarely speak in Research Methods, but I did save the day when no one had an answer for a question on research design. In the evening, I headed to the 4th floor of Snell to get through the outline of my final Cities and Suburbs paper. Iris showed up eventually and kept me company, as well as stuffing me with stroopwafel and Dove chocolates. Aside: there were three pubic hairs sitting on top of the toilet paper dispenser in the Snell restroom. How on earth did those get there? Anyway, once I deemed that I'd done enough research for the night, we decided to grab a bite at Tasty Burger.

Circle Circle, Spread Spread, Eat PB Until You're Dead
I got up this afternoon and sleepwalked through co-op class. On a tip from Alanna, I put in a couple of hours at a Circle K event in Curry. We made thousands of peanut butter & jelly sandwiches for the homeless; I never want to smell grape jelly again. I ended up working across from a girl who wordlessly started to spread peanut butter exclusively, so I was led to believe that I was tasked with the jelly. My whole world was sticky.

In From the Cold
Today was nondescript. Highlights: I made a delicious tuna melt. We watched the second episode of The Sopranos season 6 part 2, meaning there are only 7 episodes left. I went on an intense run through the blizzard outside, which was noteworthy in itself considering the month. I genuinely enjoy running in poor weather, though I prefer a light rain to the heavy, wet snow I flailed through tonight.

Be My Neighbor
Iris and I spent most of St. Patrick's Day laying around in the living room, sipping on beer and watching The Sopranos. We finished season 6 and started on the final 9 episodes, which has been a long time coming. Against both Alaric's and my judgment, Iris insisted on making a "beer float" with vanilla ice cream. (It was repulsive.) Sabrina and I shared dinner for the first time in a long while at Stetty East, after which I kicked back with a book of Mr. Rogers quotes and some TF2.

Sweet Release
Our long-planned (and probably final) big party, a pre-St. Patrick's celebration, required some prep work. Iris and I went to the Fenway Shaw's to return my can collection and bought some supplies. Alaric and I then traveled to Mission Hill to obtain the liquid refreshment, which became an exercise in grace under duress. We walked to an apartment owned by our acquaintance, who enthusiastically handed us each a Jello shot when we entered the door. We then split up a 30-rack between our two bags, but mine was considerably more loaded. When we were still ten minutes or so from Northeastern, I felt the sensation of wetness on my lower back and right calf. "Oh no..." One of the cans inside my bag had been crushed by its brethren, soaking the bag, sweatshirt, and jeans. Alaric and I stopped near Wentworth to dispose of the offending can and pack away my sweatshirt, but I still reeked of PBR. Our solution was to meet Iris outside of Wollaston's, where I was hosed down with the only scented spray she had - Victoria's Secret "Brilliant Love" fragrant mist (with diamond dust!) We successfully got past the proctor, not that it was likely to be a problem anyway, and returned to an apartment buzzing with activity. Various people were coming and going, cooking and cleaning and decorating. Unfortunately, I had to miss the Antlers show at afterHOURS, but there was a bit of work to be done.
In my estimation, the party was a roaring success. We had between 20 and 30 guests, about everyone seemed to have a fine time, and there was good conversation all night. Our acquisition of all of the alcohol at the last minute was pretty clutch as well. We played several amazing rounds of Slap Cup in the handicap bathroom, having moved 616's table in there beforehand. With Peter's assistance, I celebrated with a return to an old habit. The only unfortunate moment of the party was when Nathan brought Kevin along, who proceeded to ass-grab several people, complain about photography not getting him laid/the quality of the party, generally creep, and drink our alcohol. Beyond this, I was very happy with the way the night turned out.
Quotes of the day:
"Boom! That happened." - Jared
"I'm just a normal partygoer." - Harrison
...
Peter: "Are you gonna tell my dad?"
Harrison: "Yeah! And I'm telling your mom too!"

Punk Rock Potato
I delivered our security deposit to Symphony Properties today, the third check out of four. I quickly wrote an essay on cross-country running to earn some spring break CEP hours, and then Harrison and I began an overhaul of the fridge with assistance from Iris. Ryan appeared about halfway through the process and we made some small talk, but he shut himself in his room without offering any help. We removed everything, finding some treasures along the way, and took out the shelves to wash them. One tinfoil-wrapped object dating back to first semester defied identification for some time (it turned out to be some kind of pastry with meat.) We then reorganized everything so that everyone has their own space, with mine serving double duty as the "milk and communal stuff" shelf. Hopefully the amount of rotting objects in the fridge will drop dramatically. Later, Alanna, Iris, and I unexpectedly spent the evening sharing drinks and just hanging out. We read through the Wikipedia page on "musical royalty" and decided that "Chairman of the Board" is a pretty spiffy nickname for a musician (or anyone.)

Asplod McGunpowders
Right when I thought Bank of America was already winning the race to the bottom in the domain of bad ethical decisions, I learned that they're also invested in rainforest-clearing projects. This, combined with a comical Minecraft death that didn't peeve me at all (tossed to the top of a ravine by a Creeper's explosion, then falling to death) and a variety of other weird happenings, made for an odd day. I even got out of Political Ecology an hour early!

Textile Rehab
Ian and his friends Hunter and Kevin came up with my mother today, and after class I showed them around a bit. Since they'd already been to an informational session and taken a tour, there wasn't much for me to do other than show them the dorm, walk over to the reflecting pool, and talk about random stuff. We also visited the Tremont Street apartment and had a random encounter. Afterward, I shared dinner with Katie, then ate baked goods and continued season 6 of The Sopranos with Iris.

Stop Wearing Purple
I dreamed that Northeastern and JMU were across the street from each other, and that people were waving signs and banners at each other from the rooftops. I went undercover and entered their building in the guise of an ordinary student, mean mugging anyone who looked at me wrong. Eventually I found the room where the banners were stored, but there was a line of twenty or more students waiting to meet a professor there. I sat on a couch and decided to wait until the room was empty so that I could steal the banners.
Naturally, everyone is incompetent when it comes to loading the bus. Out in the rain, Peter and I loaded the amp, the music stands, and various other items while the cheerleaders and dance team rushed the bus (again.) Consequently, Anthony and I ended up with shitty seats near the front, far removed from anyone we'd want to talk to outside of Alaric and Haley. It rained for much of the 13 hours we were on the road, and I occupied myself with Fire Emblem and by paying minimal attention to the arbitrarily chosen bus movies, Pitch Perfect and Easy A. Iris came over when I got home, and we had a 20 minute conversation with Alaric about farts.

Wounded Warriors
The final game versus James Madison University was an utter disaster. The arena was crowded with their fans, their band was much more prepared than ours, and our team played dreadfully. Though the Huskies made some gains during the second half, we still lost 55-70 at the end of a game that was neither exciting nor fulfilling. On the walk of shame out to the bus, I played a mournful Taps. I was in a pissy mood for the rest of the evening and went to bed before midnight.

Don't Call It a Comeback
At the semifinal game versus George Mason University, things went downhill very quickly. Despite the fact that we had a couple hundred U.S. soldiers in our fan section, GMU's Doc Nix was more than a match for their motivational power. We encountered him last year at the Band Jam, and this time we were up against his team. It's hard to overstate how sloppy the Huskies were playing; see this text I sent to Harrison.
"Time to go to work." - random guy in the elevator
"We have a lot of good songs, but we need more awesome songs." - Anthony
"You might have a lot of fans, but we've got the fucking U.S. Army." - Alaric
"Buy him a plane ticket because fuck you!" - Clay
"He's got a knife!" - Jared
"You're gonna go up to heaven and there's gonna be penises everywhere." - Corey
"Go back to your hole on Whore Island!" - Peter

"Put a fucking bullet in my head, it's 7-31 with 3:36 left in the first half. We've missed every foul shot."
This was after they failed to score a single point until about ten minutes in. Then, in the second half, a miracle unfolded before our eyes. With an uninterrupted string of three 3-point shots, the Huskies were back in, and with less than twenty seconds left in the game, they clinched a layup for a 69-67 upset. To call it a come-from-behind victory would be a crime against language. Shay and I went in for a hug, a laugh started deep in my chest, and I felt all of my tension melt away. Highlights of the post-game celebration: high-fiving the Army, bumping fists with Peter Roby, barking like a dog, and the prospect of the afterparty.
Alaric and I hosted the festivities once again, and the mood was exuberant. We put on ESPN hoping for an account of the game, but it was not to be. During several rounds of Drug Dealer, I repeatedly got the dealer card and consistently defended my spot on the throne - first buying everyone out in a 30-second speed round, then winning again with a slow, steady grind. As the night progressed, our conversation got sillier, tabling three or four topics for half an hour before returning to them. Jared, Gavin, Peter and I spent some time in their room discussing movies; eventually, only Jared and I were left awake, sitting and talking by the ice machine until seven in the morning. Here's hoping that tomorrow night brings home the CAA championship win.

Raiding Party
The bus ride up was as uncomfortable as expected. I did my best to sleep, with minimal success. naturally, the Marriott is immediately next to the convention center this year, so Band Jam will only be a moment's walk away - or would be, if it was still on. The band shared an underwhelming buffet dinner, then proceeded to get extremely slizzy. Alaric and I hosted the festivities for the evening. We played several rounds of Drug Dealer, an amusing card game requiring discretion and strong powers of observation. At the end of the night, I crashed in Jake's room, where we watched a History Channel program about Vikings.

The Hell Hellraisers: Your Hometown Team
I enjoyed some more Civ IV and The Sopranos before the band leaves for Richmond tomorrow. The CAA men's basketball tourney is on, and soon, the bro-blood boileth over. Anticipated pros: copious amounts of alcohol, big game excitement, band bonding. Anticipated cons: being in Richmond, Band Jam being cancelled, sharing a bus with the cheerleaders and dance team again. I stayed up extremely late to pack and ended up not sleeping at all prior to climbing on the bus at Chicken Lou's.

The Corn After Tomorrow
Sean, Iris and I watched The Room, which is probably the worst movie I've ever seen. It doesn't even bear description. At least I could play Civ IV with Sean to partially distract myself from the awfulness unfolding on the television. When this was done, we watched the eternally quotable Batman Begins to cleanse our minds. I ran around the Fens a couple of times, but there were a few inches on snow on the ground and my pace was reduced to a trudge more than once.

Beyond the Veil, Beyond the Sword
I dreamed that Fallows and my parents bought me a wonderful birthday gift. They had hidden it under a bridge nearby so that I wouldn't find it early, and my brother and someone named Friendship (hue hue) went to get it for me. The dream ended before I could find out what was in the package. I hate that long moment when I wake up from a happy dream and cold realization sinks in. Iris and I finished season five of The Sopranos, which I've been looking forward to for days. Sean and I played a few games of Civilization IV, which is an intensely time-consuming game of very slow, very calculated strategy.

The Horrible Club
Somehow Elliot (note: different person from Eliot) forced my hand via a confusing text exchange, and we ended up moving tomorrow's movie to tonight. We watched Dr. Horrible while waiting for Iris to arrive, and then Fight Club, which I found to be appreciably good. After this, Elliot and I had a debate on the similarities between Fight Club and The Matrix. (I maintained that they were similar from a "trapped within an incomprehensible system" standpoint, while he argued that they differ in that the former concerns a self-imposed system.) He then hung around while we watched The Sopranos, uncomfortably hovering over my shoulder. At the end of the night, I took two laps around the Fens in the rain and headed to Snell to print out a volunteer form.

Please Mr. Postman
I had a hilarious dream in which I had to do a choreographed dance with Sean at some sort of a cappella competition. I woke up to a care package from home with various foods and a few clippings, including an article answering the question, "What the hell is a provost?" (It's the chief academic officer of a university, to whom all of the deans report.) After this, I went to work at ResMail for the long-delayed first time.
Naturally, "work" is a subjective term. For a couple hours, I sat around waiting for something to do and finished SuperFreakonomics. Eventually, a girl from a few of my classes (Research Methods, MPT) showed me around and taught me the mail delivery routine. After a stop at White Hall, I delivered mail to Loftman Hall on my own. After some more slack time in the mailroom, I went out on second delivery to Rubinstein and Burstein. On the floor in the Rubinstein mailroom, I found an absentee ballot (undelivered) from an election in February. With a combination of rage and embarrassment, I put it in the right mailbox. Better late than never? After work, Iris and I relaxed and watched some more of The Sopranos.

Na Na Hey Hey
Due to laziness, Alanna failed to catch the first train back to Rhode Island and instead came over to hang out with us. I finally sorted out the old family photos I'm putting on the wall and generally relaxed. Later, Alaric and I played some TF2 lobbies (semi-competitive play) and fared somewhat better than last time, winning some and losing some. After we finished I was in an unpleasant, directionless mood for some reason, and overcame this by organizing my room and doing general busy work. I ended the night with two laps around the Fens, which proved to be the best way to lift my spirits.

Wolf Girl
I woke up feeling fine and saw Iris off for the weekend. Not too long after, I started feeling a little nauseous and ended up throwing up again, despite not having eaten anything. I'm convinced the Arnold Palmer was at fault. I napped on the couch to recover my strength and had a frighteningly vivid dream about a coastal village, a deep, dark forest, and an abandoned child growing up by a lake within. Some sections of the dream were in a "storybook" format, appearing as ink illustrations on parchment paper, especially the parts concerning the lost girl. She was a beautiful, pale thing with long, wavy brown hair and a long blue-white dress, and howled just like a wolf.
Ryan left for spring break, leaving the apartment to Alaric and me for the next couple of days. Alaric, Alanna and I shared drinks, and I had a rambling conversation with Alanna that lasted until four in the morning. Tonight was more low key than last, but I think I'm glad for that.

No Regretz (feat. Irichael & Iron Maiden)
After staying up nearly all night so as not to miss Research Methods and/or my scheduled co-op advisor interview, I found out that class was canceled. I still had to stay up and finish going through my co-op selections, however. The appointment was successful and my resume will be sent out in search of 6 law firm jobs, one placement in the NU Admissions Department, one opening at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (recommended to me last year), and one placement each at the mayor's office, the Attorney General's office, and the Inspector General's office. Fingers crossed.
I played some TF2 with Alaric, and I changed my Steam name to "did I fukin ask u 2 speak"; we had fun. Iris and I then went to dinner at Symphony Sushi. The place was packed, but the wait was only 20 minutes instead of the stated 45. The sushi was quite tasty, and very filling. Unfortunately, one of my orders was a very large roll which was cumbersome to handle and impossible to eat in one bite, and I embarrassed Iris by finishing it with my fingers. Post-dinner, Alanna came over after handling a crisis and we got smashed. High points of evening: Alanna cuts me with my knife; Iris and I burn our tongues on single grains of rice which Alanna infused with a copious amount of Tabasco sauce; the Arnold Palmer that's been laying around for months starts smoking when we open it; I throw up after drinking for the first time ever. (I suspect the last one was actually a result of taking a swig of that nasty juice, though.) Luckily, I had Alanna to comfort me through this and Iris to tuck me in at the end of the night, as well as keep me company.
Quotes of the day:
"The harpies are upon me!" - me
"I suggest you suck on that immediately." - Iris
"No. Yes. I can't answer that right now." - Alanna
...
Me: "Saying 'please' in a forceful tone doesn't make me want to give it to you."
Alanna: "That's what she said?"
