Hatsumomo and the Lanterns

Iris sauteed calamari and made clam chowder and corn muffins for dinner, and we watched some more Pillars of the Earth. Later, we were joined by Sean and Katie for Memoirs of a Geisha. It wasn't my usual cup of tea, but I enjoyed the film. Ken Watanabe was excellent as the Chairman, and Koji Yakusho played a charming Nobu. I did think that some distinction should have been drawn between the Chairman's kindness toward young Chiyo and his attraction for her as the Sayuri, the geisha.
          Quote of the day:
Katie: "I'm just going off the Hercules movie here. We could just be rotting souls swimming in a pit of foul miasma."
Me: "Isn't that real life?"
