I was pleasantly surprised by how calm and pleasant my family's Christmas morning turned out to be. Ryan, as appropriate for a seven year old, lost it and ripped through his presents. The rest of us contented to lazily unwrap a couple of packages and absentmindedly drool a bit. A great deception took place, however. There seemed to be seven or eight more gifts than there actually were due to Ryan wrapping random household objects and placing them under the tree. He also gifted my father a comb, which was funny due to my father's lack of substantial hair. After a few more hours spent lounging, we went over to my grandmother's for dinner with the maternal extended family. As with all holiday dinners on that side, it was both quite nice and stupefyingly boring.
A cabaret night was put on by my high school this year, and Ian played a medley of the main theme from Forrest Gump, "Circle of Life," "Replay" by Iyaz, and "Empire State of Mind." The following link is his home recording of the last song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Um7WuRNNjYw
