We packed the van in a more or less timely manner this morning, and it was off for Boston again. After battling terrible rain and some asshole who was within 2 feet of our bumper, we pulled into a spot on Tremont Street in one piece. Thus began the move into my first apartment; it's all very exciting. At my back door on Coventry, the previous tenants of the apartments in the area left a huge pile of trash, and I retrieved quite a few interesting items while hunting through it. These include a volleyball, a fancy desk chair, a circular wooden table, a floor lamp, a wastebasket (which was later stolen by someone else), a red bucket, a wall-hung photo frame thing, and a Northeastern Police barricade. Since it had just rained and broken glass was strewn all over, some things were sadly beyond my ability to keep -- a papasan, a cheap desk, a decent poster or two. We also picked up a coffee table that someone had left out on Tremont, so that's one common room need taken care of. The couch that Alaric bought is great; it's okay looking, springy, and long enough to sleep on comfortably. In other news, one of the Andrews from Reason, Risk and Evidence is living right above us, and our first interaction had me letting him into his own apartment after being locked out on the balcony. In the evening, we threw a little housewarming party with mojitos (not a big fan) and some insane Greek liquor which is chased with a teaspoon of honey; Alaric, Sean, Katie, Haley, Nathan, and Iris were in attendance, with Cristina and Shandana around earlier in the evening. The mood in the apartment is buoyant, though much remains to be done.
